What is CIECA's Role in the Industry?

Watch this short video to understand the role CIECA plays in the industry and how CIECA Standards create greater efficiency for all segments of the collision industry.

What are CIECA Standards?

CIECA Standards are developed to provide software developers with a full set of tools necessary to develop APIs tailored to the needs of the collision industry. Each standard consists of four components:

Data Dictionary

  • Defines the data elements included in the standard.
  • Defines data type (such as currency, text, number, field size, etc.)

Code List

  • Defines the variables used to define drop-down lists, radio button lists, etc.
  • The CIECA Code List is comprised of thousands of industry standard codes.

  • A blueprint that defines how the data elements are organized and validated.
  • CIECA has schemas for every major process used in the industry today.

Support Documents

  • Documentation to help software developers apply the standard to real-world applications.

Who Uses CIECA Standards?

CIECA Standards are used by many of the leading companies in the collision industry. CIECA membership ranges from start-ups to multi-billion-dollar corporations. CIECA was founded by a group of forward-thinking leaders in the collision industry as a means of simplifying communication between trading partners. Over the years, CIECA's membership has grown to encompass every segment of the industry.

Information / Software Providers

CIECA Standards are essential for any company developing and selling software in the collision industry.  CIECA Standards are built into most estimating and shop management systems.

Insurance Companies

The highly-automated processes most insurers use to assign vehicles to repair shops and to receive estimates and invoices are driven by CIECA Standards.

Parts & Materials Suppliers

Ordering parts & materials is an essential e-commerce process. CIECA Standards power the parts ordering processes across the industry.

Tools, Equipment & Calibration

As vehicles become more complex, the tools and equipment used to repair and calibrate them requires the exchange of data across systems and platforms.

At the heart of collision are the repair providers who rely on technology-based processes to receive, repair and return vehicles to their pre-loss condition.

New and sophisticated technology is now built into every model year. Manufacturers are playing a greater role in collision repair. Timely access to vehicle information is critical to safe and effective repairs

Communicate efficiently between repair shop, insurance company and rental car provider to ensure a seamless customer experience.

Towing, Salvage & Recyclers

The logistics of moving vehicles, selling salvage and recycling components are driven by CIECA Standards.

Title Services

When a vehicle is not repairable, processing titles is much more efficient using CIECA Standards.
