Authorization Use Case


The Authorization Services focuses on extending the rental period.  It is used (by carriers) to extend a rental period and (by rental companies) to proactively request rental period extensions.


  • Rental Provider: A company whose main businesses concern is providing vehicle rental services to the collision repair industry. The provider contracts directly to individuals whose vehicles have been damaged. The Rental Provider can be paid directly by the vehicle renter or by the data recipients. These companies use assignments, messaging, notices and rental bills as part of their rental vehicle services

  • Insurance Company:  Property and Casualty insurers in one or multiple lines of business who acts on behalf of their policy holder and impacted parties for the rental of vehicles that have vehicles that are being repaired.

  • Repair Facility: Any company whose business concern is to repair damaged vehicles.

  • Data Recipients:  Any company that does not rent vehicles but who utilizes assignments, messaging, notices and rental bills to facilitate the use of a rental vehicle services for owners whose vehicles have been damaged and are subject to repairs by a segment of the of the collision industry.  (Repair facilities and insurance companies.)

  • Information Technology Companies: Any company that develops software and/or services related to vehicle rental assignments, vehicle rental data communications and/or vehicle rental data consolidation. 

  • Third Party Intermediaries (includes Software Companies): ·  Any company that develops software, databases and/or services related to the property and casualty industry, data communications and/or data consolidation. 

  • Parts Provider Any company whose businesses concern is distribution and disbursement of parts to the collision repair industry. The provider can provide one part type (OEM, etc.) or multiple part types.

  • Materials Provider Any company whose businesses concern is distribution and disbursement of materials to the collision repair industry. The provider can provide any materials used in the auto body repair process.

  • Business Management System Providers A company whose main business concern is consolidation and categorization of auto repair information to enable repair facilities to manage their business.  

  • Damage Appraisers:  Any entity whose role is to estimate or appraise vehicle and property damage and/or record and process appraisal information.

Rental Company requesting authorization from Insurance Company.


Pro-active authorization of days from Insurance Company to the Information Provider or Rental Company on new Rental period.


Rental company  inquiry on original authorization request to Insurance Company.


Information Provider inquiry to request the current Rental Expiration date from the Insurance Provider.


Insurance Company authorization change to Information Provider (could be proactive Authorization for extended Rental period)

Extension Authorization Add 

This message is used to communicate a proactive rental extension authorization from the Insurance Company or from the Rental Company to request a change to the number of authorized days. The proactive rental extension authorization must not be used as the response to a requested change in the number of authorized days. This is sent from an Insurance Company or Information Provider, to a Rental Company or Information Provider.

Extension Authorization Inquiry

The Rental Company or Information Provider would send the Extension Authorization Inquiry Request message to the Insurance Company or Information Provider to get the status on the Extension Request. 

Extension Authorization Change

Extension Authorization Change message is sent from an Insurance Company or Information Provider to a Rental Company or Information Provider to respond to the Extension Authorization Add Request message. 

Authorization Response(s)

The response to the business processes of Extension request to inform the sender that the message was received and whether or not an error occurred. It does not return an immediate answer to the request
