Benefits to Industry Segments

The following is a list of potential benefits for the industry segments:

  • Operational efficiency
  • Operational effectiveness
  • Lower cost due to processing electronically versus manually
  • Improved accuracy
  • Improved timeliness
  • Improved cash flow
  • Ability to gather and save business intelligence
  • Improved Customer Service

Specifically the XML Standards affords these benefits:

  • It is developed by industry participants for industry participants.
  • Improved ease of  implementations with new trading partners.
  • It does not require EDI translators.
  • It is accessible to smaller scale companies and/or applications participating in the industry.
  • Management of the standard by CIECA streamlines development, approval, revision, enhancement and publication.

Risk or Barrier Assessment

The ability of the industry to embrace the use of the XML message is necessary.  Traditional EDI users must be willing to and have the resources to move to XML messaging.  There must be a sufficient number of  trading partners available and a ROI that warrants the investment and encourages participation.

Trading partners that are willing to participate in time consuming and potentially costly Piloting Projects will be required for the project’s success.

Resource Requirements

The following resources are necessary for the Committee to move forward:

  • CIECA’s strategic commitment
  • Volunteer time to develop messages and participate in pilots
  • Technical resources to translate business requirements to BMS representation.
